Join us as Winterval officially begins with the much-anticipated Winterval Light Up Ceremony in the heart of Waterford City.

Gather with family and friends as the Mayor of Waterford City & County, together with Santa Claus, helps switch on the city's festive lights and marks the start of another magical Winterval season.

The celebrations begin from 5:30pm with festive entertainment, music, and plenty of Christmas cheer. Rumour has it that Santa has been brushing up on his singing and dancing skills especially for the occasion, so expect a few surprises along the way!

The best viewing location for the ceremony is beside the Winterval Carousel in John Roberts Square and Broad Street where visitors can enjoy the atmosphere and join in the countdown as the city is transformed into a sparkling Christmas wonderland.

Our friends at WLR FM will be broadcasting live from the event, helping to build excitement ahead of the big switch-on.

This free family event is the perfect way to kick off the Christmas season and celebrate the opening of Ireland's largest Christmas festival.

No tickets required – simply come along and be part of the magic.

-The first screening of Winterval Illuminates will take place at 6:30pm in Cathedral Square
-The Winterval Christmas Market will be open until 8pm
-Santa's Giant Disco Postbox will be bopping every half hour until 8pm in Arundel Square
-Gingerbread Making workshops will be running until 8pm in Constitution Square
