Winterval, Ireland’s largest Christmas Festival, runs until 23 December. Grab your camera in the coming days, and capture photos of every number on the list!

1.See Waterford from above
Brave the heights of the Winterval Eye and be rewarded with stunning views of the city.
2.Post your Santa letter
If you haven’t posted your Santa letters, head on down to the Applemarket, or to City Square Shopping Centre and pop them in one of our giant post boxes. If you’ve already posted your letter, don’t worry, you can still enjoy the fun at 4.15pm in City Square and at 4.30pm in the Applemarket on Saturday and Sunday when the elves make their final Christmas letter collections with a very special show.
3.Enjoy breakfast or afternoon tea with Santa
Come and enjoy a delicious breakfast from 9-10am on Saturday or 10.30-11.30am on Sunday and meet Santa and his friendly elf as they visit each table. Santa also visits No.9 from 3.30-4.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the 23rd. While you’re in Georges Court, place a homemade decoration on the Cartamundi Christmas tree. For every decoration, Cartamundi will donate a toy or game to the St Vincent de Paul. The centre also has a fantastic Toddler Chillout Zone on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4pm.
4.Take a selfie
Complete your Christmas album with a selfie in the Snow Family Winterland Station in Georges Court, or pop over to the Theatre Royal for more fun snaps (open daily). The ever-popular Christmas bauble photo station also runs in the Applemarket on Sunday from 12.30pm to 5pm.
5.Take a trip on the horse-drawn sleigh
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the wonderful festival with a trip across the city and through the heart of Winterval on the horse-drawn sleigh. While you wait outside the House of Waterford Crystal, the 4 Shires team will be happy to tell you the names and stories of the horses who will take you on your trip.
6.Catch the light show at the Cathedral Sq (Winterval Illuminates)
Each evening from 5pm (and every 30mins until 8pm), a wonderful festive light shows will take place in Cathedral Square. Enjoy the wonderful Christmas markets while you wait or pop around the corner to the Igloo stage where some of Waterford’s finest talent will perform.
7.Watch Home Alone at The Reg
Admission is FREE and there’s a tuck shop on site for all your cinema treats. The Reg also have a full bar and great food menu also. Call in Saturday and Sunday at 2pm or 4pm.
8.Pick up a gift at the Christmas Markets
No matter what you’re looking for, you’re sure to find it at the extensive Winterval Christmas Markets! The wonderfully popular Garter Lane Christmas Craft Fair is open until Saturday from 10am – 5.30pm and on Sunday from 12pm- 5.30pm, while the Christmas Markets at Arundel, Cathedral and Constitution Squares are the perfect place for a bite and a beverage whilst you browse the craft stalls. This Friday, also make sure to visit the Waterford Country Market at St. Olaf’s Hall, for the best of fresh local produce and handmade gifts.
9.Find your snow legs at Winterval on Ice
Winterval on Ice, the 600sqm ice rink at the Waterside carpark is always one of our most popular events. Check out their Facebook page for student deals and special events. If you miss it before Christmas, not to worry, as this attraction will stay open until 6 January!
10.Be enchanted at Spraoi’s Winter Wonderland
This year, there is a wonderful new Christmas attraction by the award-winning Waterford street arts and spectacle company, Spraoi, at Wyse Park. Journey through time as you wind your way through the Manor St gates in Waterford’s historic city walls, and be transported to a magical land. Open from 5pm-8pm from 21-23 Dec.
