Winterval Bucket List 2018

By Cedar Glitterbubbles

Winterval, Ireland’s largest Christmas Festival, runs until 23 December. Grab your camera in the coming days, and capture photos of every number on the list!

Here are our top 10 things to do at Winterval:

1.See Waterford from above

Brave the heights of the Winterval Eye and be rewarded with stunning views of the city.

2.Post your Santa letter

If you haven’t posted your Santa letters, head on down to the Applemarket, or to City Square Shopping Centre and pop them in one of our giant post boxes. If you’ve already posted your letter, don’t worry, you can still enjoy the fun at 4.15pm in City Square and at 4.30pm in the Applemarket on Saturday and Sunday when the elves make their final Christmas letter collections with a very special show.

3.Enjoy breakfast or afternoon tea with Santa

Come and enjoy a delicious breakfast from 9-10am on Saturday or 10.30-11.30am on Sunday and meet Santa and his friendly elf as they visit each table. Santa also visits No.9 from 3.30-4.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the 23rd. While you’re in Georges Court, place a homemade decoration on the Cartamundi Christmas tree. For every decoration, Cartamundi will donate a toy or game to the St Vincent de Paul. The centre also has a fantastic Toddler Chillout Zone on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4pm.

4.Take a selfie

Complete your Christmas album with a selfie in the Snow Family Winterland Station in Georges Court, or pop over to the Theatre Royal for more fun snaps (open daily). The ever-popular Christmas bauble photo station also runs in the Applemarket on Sunday from 12.30pm to 5pm.

5.Take a trip on the horse-drawn sleigh

Enjoy the sights and sounds of the wonderful festival with a trip across the city and through the heart of Winterval on the horse-drawn sleigh. While you wait outside the House of Waterford Crystal, the 4 Shires team will be happy to tell you the names and stories of the horses who will take you on your trip.

6.Catch the light show at the Cathedral Sq (Winterval Illuminates)

Each evening from 5pm (and every 30mins until 8pm), a wonderful festive light shows will take place in Cathedral Square. Enjoy the wonderful Christmas markets while you wait or pop around the corner to the Igloo stage where some of Waterford’s finest talent will perform.
